What You Should Know

At Cheley Camps, we know how important it is for potential camp staff to gather all the information they can before applying. If you have further questions, please contact us anytime.

How old do I need to be to work at Cheley?
Counselors must be at least 18 years old and some positions that require driving (hiking, backpacking, and HBO) require that you are at least 21 years old. Support Staff must be at least 18 years old.

Do my references all need to come from employers?
You can use a variety of sources for your references: a teacher, professor, pastor, employer, or volunteer supervisor. References should not be submitted by your family members.

What kind of experience do I need to apply?
We have many different positions at camp and some require more experience than others. Experience with children and in a particular skill area are desired.

Do I need any special certifications to work at Cheley?
Many positions require certifications. Click here for specifics.

Can I bring my pet with me to camp?
No, summer staff may not bring pets to Cheley.

Where do I live if I work at camp?
Summer housing is provided for everyone who works at Cheley. If you are a counselor, you live in the cabins with the campers and if you are on support staff, you live with other support staff in cabins around the camp property, usually close to the area where you work.

Do I get any time off while working at camp?
All staff members get one day and one night off each week. If you have a wedding or special event, submit your request ASAP to staff@cheley.com and we will do our best to try to accommodate you.

When do I get paid?
Staff members are paid at the end of First Term and at the end of their contract in August. Housing and meals are provided. Staff members receive a travel stipend if all paperwork is completed within three days of arrival (excluding first-year international staff who do not receive a travel stipend).

Where do I do laundry?
Estes Park is a short drive from camp and there are several laundromats available there during your time off.

Do I need a car?
Many staff bring cars to camp. We provide a shuttle to and from town daily for days off.

Will I have internet access and cell phone service?
We have a few computers that staff can use (most bring their own laptops) and Wifi in certain areas. Cell service is available, depending on your provider. Staff members are not allowed to use phones during staff training or around campers. Phones are kept in support staff cabins and counselor cabins.

I was on the staff in the past. What do I have to do to be on the staff this summer?
Everyone interested in being a part of the Cheley staff must apply every summer. Returning staff should email staff@cheley.com to request a reapplication form.
