Colorado summer camp

Getting Ready

Cheley Colorado Camps is located above 8,000 feet in elevation, yet many of our backcountry programs take campers above 14,000 feet. Due to our location and mountain environment, campers will experience warm days in the high 80s and cold days with temperatures below freezing. Standing on a mountain summit can be one of the most rewarding experiences, as long as you have the appropriate equipment to keep you warm, dry, and safe.

As you prepare for the Cheley Experience, please reference our Packing List below. If you are unsure about what to bring, please contact us. Campers can also visit the Camp Store during the summer and purchase other equipment, supplies, and Cheley apparel, as well as "treats." While it is not our intent to have parents buy unnecessary equipment or clothing for their camper, campers need to be prepared for our climate and for many programs, including hiking, outcamping, horseback riding, and climbing. The following are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare for your summer at camp:

  • Cheley will provide most equipment required for program and activities, including internal frame backpacks for overnight backpack trips, tents, cooking stoves, all the tack and helmets for riding, and other equipment used in the other camp programs.
  • For your convenience, Everything Summer Camp has the complete Cheley Colorado Camps packing list available online while you shop. Everything Summer Camp is stocked with camp duffle bags, laundry bags, water bottles, and all the other gear you'll need for a wonderful summer camp experience. For over 20 years, Everything Summer Camp has been all about helping you get ready for camp.
