Fishing
The world slows down when you are fishing. The rhythm of the cast, the slow reeling in of your bait, the ripples on the water. Campers learn patience as the work to catch a fish, they learn connection as they visit on the shoreline, and they gain appreciation for nature’s beauty. Our spring-fed ponds and streams are stocked with rainbow trout waiting for the challenge.

"A good laugh is sunshine in the heart."
Trigger Bill
We have added fly fishing to our program. Campers learn the rhythm of the cast, the strategy, and the excitement of hooking a fish and reeling it in. Campers learn that the art of fishing is learning to enjoy the process over the results.
"Camp is a place where I can truly be myself and in the process, learn more about myself."
Rachel, Cheley camper

Campers participating in the summer camp fishing program are taught how to bait the rod, how to reel in and net, and how to clean and prepare the fish for cooking. We follow catch-and-release guidelines, which allow two trout per outing. Don’t let the solemn nature of the sport fool you. Fishing at summer camp here at Cheley is a great way to get to know your peers and learn one of America's favorite past times.
